Brass
Brass is a versatile alloy primarily composed of copper and zinc, with varying proportions that dictate its specific properties. It is highly valued for its excellent workability (malleability and ductility), good electrical and thermal conductivity, and attractive golden-yellow appearance. Brass exhibits good corrosion resistance, particularly to water and saline environments, making it suitable for marine applications. Its copper content also provides inherent antimicrobial properties. Minor additions of other elements like lead (to improve machinability), tin, manganese, or aluminum can further modify its characteristics, such as strength, color, and corrosion resistance.
